Last of the Wild Days

The Wild Days are all but over, and the Howling Hunt is nearing…

Facing the worst winter in living memory, Brackenhal and Merralea are fleeing south with what’s left of their tribe – and their last remaining cub. Plagued by cold, hunger, and opportunistic Flesheaters who are picking off their fellow Foragers one by one, there is still no sign of winter lifting, nor spring returning. Along their path, they discover an abandoned fox cub lying in the snow, yet despite foxes being among the most feared and cruel of all predators, they decide to raise the cub as their own. Meanwhile, another creature born of winter itself is uniting the Flesheaters under one creed to begin a great hunt, and while the Foragers raise their orphaned cub in little knowledge of the looming threat, the Wintergazer is ever growing in both power… and hunger.

Against the setting described above, The Last of the Wild Days is the story of someone born into one way of life but raised into another; whose identity is increasingly torn between heritage and upbringing, nature and nurture, right and wrong – who must ultimately discover what the meanings of family and friendship truly are to them.

As well as for use of setting, the world, characters and their various attitudes towards one another are intended as a satirical reflection of humanity and our issues throughout history that are still largely present today such as tribalism, slavery and greed.

Dedicated to the memory of my brother Nathaniel (Natty), Brian Jacques whose books we both grew up with, and other influential authors who are sadly no longer with us, this is a story of life, death, love, grief, captivity, freedom, prejudice, compassion, and the complicated, bittersweet bonds of friendship and family – in a reflection of our own lives as a combination of beauty, agony and everything in between.

If you decide to pick it up, self publishing relies heavily on ratings and reviews – so any review or any feedback you could offer would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

Dark Quasar Rising

In the heart of enemy territory, Vanti must save the day without blowing her cover… or her cool.

Security for a reality star cruising on a billionaire’s space yacht should be excellent cover for secret agent Lindsay “Vanti” Fioravanti. Her boss, the famous Elodie-Oh, doesn’t care where they go, as long as it’s viral.

Then Arun, the ship’s owner and pilot, grabs an opportunity to do business on Gagarin–a planet emerging into capitalism with enthusiasm. Getting in on the new market is a huge risk, but could offer enormous rewards. And visiting Gagarin gives Vanti the chance to recruit new informants.

The Original

Hugo Award-winning authors Brandon Sanderson and Mary Robinette Kowal team up in this sci-fi thriller set in a world where one woman fights to know her true identity and survive the forces that threaten her very existence.

In the near future, humans choose life—for a price. Injectable nanite technology is the lifeblood that flows through every individual wishing to experience the world through the lens of their own theme. While death from mortal wounds is still possible, life is made easier in a socially liberated society where automation and income equality allow passion pursuits to flourish over traditional work. Renewal stations are provided to every law-abiding citizen for weekly check-ins, which issue life-sustaining repairs in exchange for personal privacy. But what becomes of those who check out, of those who dare to resist immortality and risk being edited under the gaze of an identity-extracting government surveillance system?

When Holly Winseed wakes up in a hospital room, her memory compromised and a new identity imposed on her, a team of government agents wastes no time stating their objective. With intent to infiltrate and defeat the terrorist group ICON, the agents tell Holly that she is now a Provisional Replica and has one week to hunt down and kill her Original for the murder of her husband, Jonathan. If she succeeds, she’ll assume her Original’s place in society. If she fails, her life will end. Holly’s progress is monitored by an assigned contact that feeds her information as she confronts the blank, robotic world around her, discovering that others view life through the theme of their own choosing.

With her newly implanted combat and deduction skills, Holly fends off both attacks by terrorists and doubts about her own trustworthiness as clues lead her to her Original—and to the truth about Jonathan. In the end, one body remains and one walks away. Although questions persist, one thing is certain: Life will never be the same.
