Available in the U.S. for the first time, ehre is the second volume in the exceptional Legends of the Riftwar series from “a master storyteller who weaves exciting, sweeping epic tales” (SF Site)
Durine, Kethold, and Pirojil are mercenaries who have spent 20 years fighting other people’s battles, defeating the Tsurani and the Bugs and the goblins. Yet now it seems, there are no more enemies to vanquish, leaving them with a few months of welcomed garrison duty as the Riftwar rages on west in Crydee. When the trio are ordered to accompany a lady and her husband safely to the city of LaMut, it looks like an easy—even cushy—assignment. But in Midkemia, nothing is that simple. . . .

Julia Stone’s past comes creeping back when she discovers a strange silver ring, and three men want to help her–but choosing the wrong one could cost not only her heart but her soul.
THE SKULL RING
Dr. Pamela Forrest is determined to bring Julia’s memories to the surface, hoping to heal Julia’s panic disorder. The therapist keeps returning Julia to a night twenty-three years ago when Julia was four. A night of hooded figures, strange chants, pain, and blood. The night her father disappeared from the face of the earth.
But the line between the past and the present begins to blur when Julia finds a silver skull ring that bears the name “Judas Stone.” Someone is leaving strange messages inside her house, even though the door is locked. The handyman, who has a key, spends a lot of time in the woods behind her house. Her boyfriend Mitchell becomes distant and violent. And the cop who investigated her father’s disappearance has followed her to the small Appalachian town of Elkwood.
Now she has a head full of memories, but she doesn’t know which are real and which are the creations of Dr. Forrest. The shadows of Julia’s panic are growing larger and darker. But succumbing to madness seems safer than heeding the whispers that claim ownership of her body and soul.

A propulsive and chillingly prescient novel of suspense and terror from the Bram Stoker award–winning author of The Cabin at the End of the World and A Head Full of Ghosts.
“Absolutely riveting.” — Stephen King
In a matter of weeks, Massachusetts has been overrun by an insidious rabies-like virus that is spread by saliva. But unlike rabies, the disease has a terrifyingly short incubation period of an hour or less. Those infected quickly lose their minds and are driven to bite and infect as many others as they can before they inevitably succumb. Hospitals are inundated with the sick and dying, and hysteria has taken hold. To try to limit its spread, the commonwealth is under quarantine and curfew. But society is breaking down and the government’s emergency protocols are faltering.
Dr. Ramola “Rams” Sherman, a soft-spoken pediatrician in her mid-thirties, receives a frantic phone call from Natalie, a friend who is eight months pregnant. Natalie’s husband has been killed—viciously attacked by an infected neighbor—and in a failed attempt to save him, Natalie, too, was bitten. Natalie’s only chance of survival is to get to a hospital as quickly as possible to receive a rabies vaccine. The clock is ticking for her and for her unborn child.
Natalie’s fight for life becomes a desperate odyssey as she and Rams make their way through a hostile landscape filled with dangers beyond their worst nightmares—terrifying, strange, and sometimes deadly challenges that push them to the brink.
Paul Tremblay once again demonstrates his mastery in this chilling and all-too-plausible novel that will leave readers racing through the pages . . . and shake them to their core.

A LEGION SLAUGHTERED.
A STARSHIP WASTED.
A PLANET NUKED.
IT’S A BAD DAY, EVEN BY MY STANDARDS.
My name is Lucky Savage. I’m a Frontier Marine, which means I’m hard to kill. I have a foul-mouthed AI living in my head that calls herself Rocky. I’m good at exactly two things: Shooting stuff and dodging responsibility.
I guess I should also mention that I have some special abilities that were imprinted on my mind by aliens … nah, let’s not get into that yet.
Here’s what matters. On my latest mission, everything has gone sideways. I’ve ended up ambushed behind enemy lines and left for dead along with a handful of privates so green they actually respect my authority.
With nobody around with a higher rank still sucking air, I have little choice but to step up.
That means mastering my inner demons, managing the ambitions of my AI, and—oh yeah—figuring out what the hell is tearing a hole in the fabric of space-time before everything goes tits up.
I don’t want to spoil anything for you but… it’s aliens. And not just any aliens, but the very same ones that experimented on me years ago. Of course it is.
So now I’m supposed to figure out how to stop all this. I’ll be honest, I don’t have a clue. But here’s one thing I do know: Somewhere, somehow, somebody is gonna pay for all this. And I’ll be right there to pull the trigger.
If the damn privates don’t get me killed first.

Note to readers: Frontier Marines prefer their language salty, their jokes naughty, and their problems solved with violence. Consider yourself warned.
