Sunset

Sunset brought a hangover, a beautiful woman, and the thirst for… blood?

Eric didn’t ask to be a vampire.
To be fair, there are lots of types of vampires–different species, if you like–and his particular type is called a “Nightlord.” But so what? Eric read all about various monsters, but he didn’t believe in any of them.
Then he meets a beautiful woman, wakes up with a hangover, and bites his tongue with his own fangs. That was pretty convincing. The bite, that is. She was more convincing, but until he bit his tongue, he wasn’t listening.

Eric clearly isn’t a typical vampire. He didn’t want to be one, and certainly not without reading the terms and conditions! At least his sense of humor seems up to the task of coping with his new circumstances–or he’s using it as a coping mechanism. Nobody’s sure just how sane an involuntary vampire can be.
So what does one do when shanghaied into being an undead? Is it better to laugh about it and get on with… uh… life? There’s a lot to learn, not the least of which is that these brand-new bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts can be difficult.

Upside: Eric has the beautiful Sasha to teach him the ropes, including the magic he’ll need to survive.
Downside: it turns out being a vampire is the least of his problems.

Not only are people trying to kill him, but he’s got a whole world of magic and monsters who either want something from him–immortality, power, a little of his blood, his entire head, or maybe some small piece of his heart.

Eric will find himself dragged into an epic battle at the literal edge of the world, as one dark power set against both Darkness and Light to keep a precarious world in balance.

“When you fall off the Edge of the World into hordes of demonic ‘Things from the Outer Darkness,’ you really start to wonder about your life choices.”
–Eric, part-time undead, expectant father, and involuntary astronaut.

Set forth into an epic journey spanning space, time, and alternate realities today!

The Lantern

“A whirlwind love affair, a wife who dies under mysterious circumstances, and a string of murder—and ghosts!—all set in a crumbling countryside estate in Provence. This haunting tale is everything you could want in a Gothic mystery that doesn’t also include a heroine named Jane Eyre.” — Redbook

Set in the lush countryside of Provence, Deborah Lawrenson’s The Lantern is an atmospheric modern gothic tale of love, suspicion, and murder, in the tradition of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca.

Drawn to a confident and artistic wealthy older man she barely knows, bookish Eve recklessly embarks on a whirlwind affair that soon offers a new life and a new home—Les Genévriers, a charming yet decaying hamlet nestled amid the fragrant lavender fields of Provence.

But with autumn’s arrival the days begin to cool—and so, too, does Dom. Though Eve knows he bears the emotional scars of a failed marriage—which he refuses to talk about—his silence arouses suspicion and uncertainty. And, like its owner, Les Genévriers is also changing. Bright, warm rooms have turned cold and uninviting; shadows now fall unexpectedly; and Eve senses a presence moving through the garden. Is it a ghost from the past—or a manifestation of her current troubles with Dom? Can she trust Dom—or could her life truly be in danger?

An evocative tale of romantic and psychological suspense, The Lantern masterfully melds past and present, secrets and lies, appearances and disappearances—along with our age-old fear of the dark.

A key to immortality has been found. Four centuries later, it has become commonplace for the minds of the dead to be preserved. While warehoused in a massive storage facility tended by robots, the brains pass time watching old film clips, learning about bees, and meditating their way to a higher state of being. But for the facility’s overseers, Skeets presents a problem. A twelve-year-old for all eternity, their most famous resident still wants to be a cowboy. To remedy this embarrassment, his handlers concoct a solution that will push humanity even farther past nature’s wildest dreams. This ebook features an illustrated biography of William Hjortsberg including rare photos from the author’s personal collection.
