A miraculous encounter with Ded Moroz gives her a second chance, she is reborn as a six-year-old with loving parents and a godfather, Uncle Seryozha. Yet, her past life haunts her dreams, guiding her younger self through new trials in life. The two Mashas begin to communicate in dreams, with the younger one teaching kindness to the older one. As Mashenka turns seven, her family faces turmoil due to her mother's affair and father's alcoholism. After a brief period of reconciliation, a tragic drunk-driving accident claims her parents' lives and results in Mashenka's legs amputations. The elder Masha takes her place to spare her the pain, and disowned by relatives, Mashenka is sent to a orphanage.

Determined to find Mashenka's godfather, the elder Masha meets Ded Moroz, who reunites both Mashas in the same time and space. The younger Masha finds Uncle Seryozha, while the elder returns to her fourteen-year-old body, where Mashenka and her godfather ultimately save her.
