It's a bit of a cross between those great hard-boiled detective novels of the 1930s and 1940s and more modern Urban Fantasy by authors like Jennifer Estep and Faith Hunter. Amber is a great heroine and this book is filled with secondary characters I can't help but like.

This story was just plain awesome. I totally agree with some of the other reviewers, this falls in the same league as Kate Daniels, Jane Yellowrock and Cat And Bones.Kickass heroine who is believable (ex military special ops), Vampires who don't go poof the magic dragon in sunlight or upon death. No insta love ( which I have come to dislike). Excellent world building without information dumps. Very good plot line with underlying overall plot line.
